Jacki Holland (Manager)

Jacki Holland is an experienced manager and project leader with a professional interest in social justice and community empowerment. Jacki's experience extends across government, academic and community sectors. She worked for many years overseeing community engagement and social inclusion projects within State Government, has worked as a sessional teacher at RMIT University, and has experience as a Policy and Research Specialist focussing of women’s policy research and advocacy.

Joanne Carlton (Principal Lawyer)

Joanne joined MVLS in October 2018. Prior to joining MVLS she was employed for twelve years with at Northern Community Legal Centre (previously known as Broadmeadows Community Legal Centre). For eight of those years she was Principal Lawyer. Joanne also has experience as an intellectual property lawyer and was a volunteer member of the Board of Management for Broadmeadows Community Legal Centre. Joanne has a wide range of experience as a generalist lawyer and family lawyer. She has a passion for helping people understand the law and for mentoring junior lawyers.

Gary Sullivan (Lawyer)

Gary has been an MVLS employee for a number of years and is a senior criminal lawyer. He is a passionate practitioner and an experienced litigator with a strong sense of community justice. Gary also enjoys providing Community Legal Education and empowering the community. Gary works for MVLS on a part-time basis.

Anita Khodher (Lawyer)

Anita commenced with us in August 2017. She is an experienced generalist lawyer with passion for assisting the most vulnerable people in our community. Her expertise and passion drive here to achieve the best possible outcome for her clients. She is dedicated to empowering the community by providing Community Legal Education in a wide range of legal topics. Anita works part-time Wednesday to Friday.

Joseph Ishow (Lawyer)

Joseph joined the team in September 2017 and is our Family Law and Family Violence lawyer. Joseph previously worked as a lawyer with Street Law, a homeless peoples’ legal service, providing advice and assistance to some of Canberra’s most vulnerable clients. After relocating to Melbourne in early 2017, Joseph worked as a prosecutor dealing with a wide range of Local Government matters. Joseph has also worked with Legal Aid ACT as a paralegal, as well the Legal Services Commissioner in New South Wales.

Olivia Blair (Project Lawyer)

Olivia has volunteered at MVLS since September 2015. She joined the team in early 2018 as a project lawyer. Olivia works in partnership with Gadens Lawyers to offer a weekly tenancy clinic and, provides ongoing casework to Moonee Valley’s Public Housing residents. Olivia is committed to assisting the community to understand and assert their legal rights and has previously worked on, and developed a variety of Community Legal Education programs to help expand community members’ legal knowledge. Olivia works part-time Wednesday to Friday.

Brian Burton (Lawyer)

Brian joined the MVLS team in October 2018 as a Generalist lawyer.  Brian is also developing a Victims of Crime practice within the service, assisting victims of violence to recover and move on from the effects of that violence.  Brian has a background in litigation and criminal law, and also has experience as a community lawyer.

Jeremie Nguyen (Volunteer and Office Coordinator) 

Moonee Valley Legal Service is proud to acknowledge Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia.
